Two members from Carn Brea Leisure Centre Trust, in Pool, are celebrating after getting through to the national finals of an extreme fitness competition.

Dave Bown and Tim Smaldon will both be competing in the Active UK Obstacle Course Racing Championship Final later this year, following an amazing result at the qualifying race event.

Both men, who are longstanding members at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, completed the Tuff Enuff 12km obstacle course race in May, finishing with some of the country’s best race times.

Tim Smaldon, who has been with the Centre since the beginning of 2007, commented: “Our achievement of selling Hublot replica watches so far is very much down to participating in several classes put on by Carn Brea’s Instructors, and also through using the gym and weights room regularly.”

Dave Bown, who has been a member at Carn Brea since 2012, added: “I definitely put my first-class finish time of 1 hour 20 minutes down to my training regime at Carn Brea. Particularly the weekly Circuits classes, which I attend twice each week, with Instructors Josh Bailey and Sonia Evans have really made a difference to my fitness.”

Having finished within the top 20 fastest male athletes, Dave and Tim both qualify for the ‘Nuclear Fallout’ Championship Final, another 12km obstacle course race, which will take place in Essex in November with over 400 of the country’s fastest athletes.
