If you want to become a Lifeguard, there is no better venue for Lifeguard training in Cornwall than Carn Brea Leisure Centre Trust.

Our RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Trainer Assessors have years of experience behind them, and are now dedicated to providing excellent training to new comers as well as seasoned veterans. 

The course is completed over five days (Monday – Friday), usually between 8.30am and 5pm.

During this time you will complete theory work in our own private conference rooms, and practical work in our 25m swimming pool.

The final assessments are then completed on the sixth day (Saturday), normally in the morning.

The cost of the course is £270, which includes all manuals, paperwork, and the final assessments. As part of this fee you will also receive AED qualification.

• Monday 27th July - Saturday 1st August 
• Monday 26th - Saturday 31st October

To train to become a lifeguard, candidates must:

• Be 16 years of age on day of assessment
• Be able to meet the following basic criteria:
• Jump/dive into deep water
• Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water, and tread water for 30 seconds
• Climb out unaided without ladders/steps and where pool design permits

Payment and Cancellation:

Full payment is required to book a place on the course and payments are non-refundable. If candidates are unable to attend the course for any reason, a transfer onto a later course will be offered providing the request is made no less than one week prior to the start of the course.

Late Arrivals and Missed Sessions:

If you are unable to complete the required elements or attend any of the sessions during the week this will result in your inability to complete the course for which we are unable to refund any costs. 

Unforeseen Circumstances:

On occasion, unforeseen circumstances may require us to cancel or reschedule a course. In such circumstances as much notice as possible will be given, and either a transfer or refund offered.
