Carn Brea Leisure Centre takes part in the "BBC Make a difference Kit out the Nation Campaign"

Posted on 6 Sep 2021 in General

Carn Brea Leisure Centre is taking in park in this years BBC Make a difference "Kit out the Nation campaign".

As we all emerge from the Coronavirus pandemic, local BBC radio stations are coming together to help children and families, our local one being BBC Radio Cornwall.

In a recent report, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee published data from Sport England which showed 100,000 fewer children met the recommended level of activity in 2020 than in 2019 and it was "of significant concern".

One issue is around access to sport and exercise because of the affordability of kit, and the situation has been compounded by the pandemic.

There are many people with good condition equipment that would otherwise go to landfill or simply remain in cupboards, could get an extended life and help a young person get active.

We want to do our bit to help. From Saturday 4 September until Saturday 2 October we are aiming to get kit and sports equipment to the schools and clubs where a young person may use it.

Together, we can help get the nation's young people more active.

How you can get involved

We are looking for donations of clean kit in good condition so that we can distribute these items to schools and clubs who may need them.

We are looking for everyday items of sports kit (clothing) and regular games equipment that a young person can use in an activity, such as balls, bats and rackets. (We are not looking for large items of gym equipment).

Please check your cupboards, sort out the bedrooms and if you’ve got unwanted sports kit or equipment help us get them to children and young adults.

Where can you donate your unwanted sports kits?

Please DO NOT bring donations to BBC sites as they are unable to accept them.

We are looking for clean and usable kit. We recommend that you bag up any kit or equipment prior to donation. “We reserve the right to refuse items that are not bagged or in good condition”.

Please follow our Covid procedures when delivering these items- face masks should be worn when entering site, hand sanitiser should be used before and after touching things and all donations need to be clean and bagged.

We will be linking with business2schools to help with the distribution of the kit, so if your school is not registered encourage them to sign up and they will benefit from the kit we collect.

Thank you for reading, we hope you join us in trying to help our community.
