So, you want to become a lifeguard? Well there is no better venue for lifeguard training in Cornwall than Carn Brea Leisure Centre.
Our two, in-house, RLSS qualified, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Trainer Assessors have over 40 years combined lifeguarding experience behind them and are now dedicated to providing excellent training to new comers as well as seasoned veterans.
Our next lifeguard course, commencing on Monday 4
th June 2012, has a maximum of 24 spaces available and boasts excellent facilities such as a 25m pool with shallow leisure area, separate 3m diving pool and separate warmer learner pool.
As well as our comfy training/conference room situated over looking the sports hall and running track area, Carn Brea brags its very own Carn Brea Cafe where candidates can choose from a variety of foods throughout the week.
The course is completed over 5 days (Monday to Friday - at varied times, usually between 8am - 5pm) with the final assessments on the 6th day (Saturday morning). The cost is
£210, this includes
all manuals
and paperwork as well as the assessment on the final day. Also included within the course is AED training, which can normally cost around £60 by itself! A non-refundable deposit of £105 is required to secure a place, with the remaining balance of £105 being due before the start date of the course.
To train to become a lifeguard, candidates must:
- Be 16 years of age prior to commencing a course of training.
- Be able to meet the following basic criteria:
- Jump/dive into deep water.
- Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds.
- Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water, and tread water for 30 seconds.
- Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool (3m at CBLC).
- Climb out unaided without ladders/steps and where pool design permits.
*Diving to depths of more than 1.5m may cause damage to hearing.
Exemption for some of the elements of assessment may apply to holders of the following awards and qualifications:
- Current RLSS UK Bronze Medallion or higher award.
- Current HSE approved First Aid at Work Certificate.
- Current RLSS Life Support 3 Award.
- Current STA NaRS (Pool Lifeguard) Qualification.
