New Management Team to Keep Leisure Centre on its Toes
Social Enterprise and local charity, Carn Brea Leisure Centre, have appointed a new Centre Manager as part of a restructure that sees the management team strengthened to accommodate the growing services it offers the community.
Barry Holding, who has been at the Centre for over fifteen years, will now oversee operations at Cornwall’s first Leisure Trust and succeeds Alex Clifton, who has become the Centre’s Strategic Development Manager.
Barry’s lengthy service dates back to 1994 when he first joined Carn Brea as a Lifeguard. Between then and now he has taken time out to complete a degree and has also worked in a variety of positions at the centre, most recently as Duty Manager.
Barry said “I have always enjoyed working at Carn Brea and held an aspiration to lead the organisation at some point in my career, the ethos of the centre is unique and to be given the opportunity to fulfil my dream job is a real honour.”
Barry added “I am looking forwards to working with such a dedicated and professional team to improve the operation and provide our very supportive customers with the facilities and service they deserve.”
Barry will be joined by Rachel Silvester who has recently started as the Trust’s new Finance Manager and Andy Williams who has been appointed as a Duty Manager. Both Rachel and Andy have been working locally for many years, Rachel most recently at the Combined Universities for Cornwall and Andy at Williams Travel.
The restructure and new appointments come at an exciting time for the Charity as it considers the next stages of its development and prepares itself for the busy New Year period.
Jeff Marston, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said “We are delighted to have been able to appoint a group of such experienced, skilled and local individuals to our management team. I am looking forward to working with them to sustain and improve the important facilities our social enterprise provides the local community”.

Party in the Pink proves huge success!
Dozens of fitness fans donned pink attire to take part in a charity fundraising event held at Carn Brea Leisure Centre Trust in Pool.
Carn Bream itself a charity, opened its doors to host a two hour exercise session in aid of the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
The Party in the Pink event featured taster sessions of many of the classes on offer at the Centre: including the Les Mills Body Training System classes Body Combat, Body Attack, Body Step and Body Balance, along with the extremely popular Latin-inspired dance fitness class Zumba.
Almost 100 people attended the event, held on Saturday 15th October, and each made a minimum donation of £2. Over £300 was raised, which will go directly to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
Gym and Studio Manager, Amelia Blackford, said: "As a charity ourselves we know how important fundraising is, and so it was great to see literally dozens of people taking part; all in bright pink clothing. There were people with pink feather boasand fairy wings: we even had one man turn up in a pink tutu!"
It is the fourth charity aerobics event the leisure centre has now run, following the success of similar charity fundraisers over the last three years.

Staff and members of Carn Brea celebrate the donations at the end of the day.
